Hi, I’m Charmaine Fuller.
I’ve been on my own journey of deconstruction and identity development for decades.
Many years ago, I started my own journey of figuring out a better and more fulfilling way to live my life. After many years of doing what I thought I was “supposed to” be doing and being what I thought I was “supposed to” be, I realized I was deeply unhappy. My relationships were unhealthy and I was experiencing deep codependency and enmeshment. After hitting rock bottom, I knew I had to make some changes.
I started therapy - both individually and with my partner at the time, and I began learning all I could about human behavior, archetypal psychology, feminist theory, and queer theory and history. Building on my previous education in religious studies, I embarked on a journey of deconstruction that including religion, spirituality, sexuality, gender, relationships, and more. I had to tear down all my old altars and begin anew.
After hitting rock bottom several more times and even more deconstruction and discovery, I eventually found my way to studying counseling psychology in a top rated graduate program. As a licensed counselor and volunteer in behavioral health for over a decade, I worked with a variety of clients and issues. I learned about the intersections of identity, trauma, and the systems we’re born into and how it all comes together to instill in us a sense of “should.” I’ve been able to guide clients from all sorts of background through their own journeys of deconstruction and identity development. I approach the work from a feminist and Buddhist-psychology informed background. Through understanding the systems we’re born into and raised in, we can understand how they have informed who and what we think we’re supposed to be. Combined with the work of deconstruction, we can begin to understand who we are outside of the stories we’ve been given. Then, we can begin to tell our own story.
My Approach
I believe each individual is their own greatest expert. My goal is for you to have the space to explore all your thoughts and feelings in a secure, non-judgmental way. I believe a person’s greatest hurdle to growth is the fear of authenticity and vulnerability. When we show ourselves in our entirety – the prideful and the shameful – we stand completely exposed and at risk of the ultimate rejection. That precipice is where I wait to embrace you. Through the use of psychoeducation, bibliotherapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, radical self-acceptance, radical honesty, compassion, and lovingkindness you can begin to understand the patterns in your day-to-day life. Discussing your life in the here and now, engaging in between-session exercises and homework, and building your knowledge through psychoeducation all help you to have a well-rounded coaching experience. I use research-based interventions and treatments along with my own education and experiences to guide you to your best self.
